Relationships (Including Toxic ones)

NOT A GOOD APOLOGY:
- I am Sorry But...
- I am Sorry But You...
- I am Sorry You Feel That Way.
- I am Sorry For Whatever I Did To Hurt You.
- I am Sorry. If You Promise ... Then I Won't...
- I am Sorry. Are You Happy Now?
- I am Sorry. I Can't Do Anything Right

THIS IS A GOOD APOLOGY:

- I am Sorry, that I hurt you. I shouldn't have said, or done (be specific)..., You have every right to be upset with me. I am hoping you will forgive me, and trust that I will not do that again. I never want to make you feel dismissed because I am not strong enough to own my stuff. I'll do better.

Even in Church:

Where there are people there will be misunderstandings resulting in a desire to distance ourselves from one another. This is true on the streets of all nations as well as in church settings. Closing the distance between ourselves and other as soon as possible is Heaven’s Plan. (See Matthew 18).

2 Timothy 3:1-5, it says:

"But mark this: There will be terrible times in the last days. People will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boastful, proud, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy, without love, unforgiving, slanderous, without self-control, brutal, not lovers of the good, treacherous, rash, conceited, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God, having a form of godliness but denying its power. Have nothing to do with such people."

Matthew 18 (Words of JESUS)

15 “If another believer sins against you, go privately and point out the offense. If the other person listens and confesses it, you have won that person back.

16 But if you are unsuccessful, take one or two others with you and go back again, so that everything you say may be confirmed by two or three witnesses.

17 If the person still refuses to listen, take your case to the church. Then if he or she won’t accept the church’s decision, treat that person as a pagan or a corrupt tax collector.

Since we are the product of our childhood and adult life experiences each of us may approach apologies differently.

Dr. Kris Reece, Christian Clinical Psychologist, shares helpful information about meaningful apologies.

Not all apologies are created equal.

Apologizing is more than just saying those two simple words...."I'm Sorry".

In fact, there are some apologies that are downright toxic. In this video, we explore toxic apologies God doesn't want us to do or to trust. This skit was meant for entertainment purposes and is meant to showcase toxic apologies that both male and females can exhibit.

I CAN CHANGE

If I am willing to acknowledge that I need to change, if I am willing to say "I am sorry, I was wrong."

Until I am willing to confess my sinful actions how can I expect the Lord to forgive and cleanse (heal) me from all my unrighteousness.

JESUS took my place. Am I willing to acknowledge that I need His help with my problems? He is willing if we are willing.
